The Lower Laguna Madre is home to the Laguna Madre Fly Fishers and is a unique marine ecosystem, the largest hyper-saline lagoon in the world. The 185 square miles of sea grass meadows support a fishery that is the envy of fly fisherman throughout the world.
The lower Laguna Madre is a vast hypersaline lagoon that is bordered on the north by the Land Cut - a channel dredged through the sand flats to join the lower Laguna to the upper Laguna Madre - to the east by Padre Island, and on the west by the King Ranch and Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge.
Stalk redfish and speckled trout in foot-deep, Caribbean-like waters with super shallow running boats.
Regardless of the fly rod and reel that you use, there is something that you need to know: You need to work on distant casting before you come. If you cannot cast 50 feet with ease, then get a book or a good video and lengthen your cast before you come down.
Come for just the day, or stay awhile to enjoy first class lodging and world class birding and design your own flexible lodging and fishing schedule.
