Toad

The toad has become a go-to fly for tarpon fishermen everywhere and the same is true here in South Texas.

The large body of the fly allows it to suspend fairly well and  make a soft presentation on the water.  While the marabou tail pulses and breathes like marabou does to add life to the fly.

For tarpon the toad is often tied on larger hooks but this pattern can also be tied on a smaller hook and used for redfish and trout.  

The body is composed of yarn and the tail of marabou. The original toad pattern is said to have been tied with a rabbit strip tail. For tying instructions and more information please see the articles below.
